| As part of the Communities in Bloom endeavour,
the Town of Qualicum Beach established a working committee to describe and record
trees considered to be significant. Criteria used by the committee members included
native or exotic specimens notable for their size, their history, their cultural
links, or for their ornamental characteristics.
Seventy-two
tree specimens have been measured and photographed and are included in a carved
wooden album on display at the Town Hall.
Contributing members of the Significant Trees Committee include
foresters with academic, industrial, governmental and consulting experience, the
Town arborist, a Town Councillor, a member of the local naturalists society, and
a consultant on local hiking trails. Local artists provided artwork for and the
carved front cover of the album.
The Town has prepared a Significant Trees walking/driving tour
brochure for people to use to view the significant trees.
