Bed and Breakfast Licence

As a community that attracts many visitors each year, homeowners are welcome to take advantage by opening a Bed and Breakfast.

The Town of Qualicum Beach defines a Bed and Breakfast as:

The use of part of a single-family dwelling containing additional sleeping rooms for the accommodation of paying transient guests where breakfast is the only meal which may be served to the guests.
Conducted in conjunction with the single-family dwelling.
Having sleeping rooms contained within the dwelling.
Having the owner of the Bed and Breakfast business reside in the dwelling while the use is being carried out.
Employing a maximum of one non-resident employee in the Bed and Breakfast business.
Providing breakfast as the only meal served, before noon.
Ensuring the maximum number of guests sleeping rooms, and guests comply with the maximum allowed in the bylaw.

In addition, any ancillary dwelling unit, attached or detached, from the principal dwelling must not be used as part of the Bed and Breakfast.

Short-Term Vacation Rentals

The Town of Qualicum Beach’s current Short-Term Vacation Rental (STVR) regulations do not permit STVRs in residential areas, except those designated as Bed and Breakfasts.

Preparing for Your Application

Bed and Breakfast licences must be applied for each year, with applicants required to:

Make a Bed and Breakfast declaration (attached to the application).
Submit a Fire Department inspection application and fee.
Receive Public Health Inspector Approval, if required.
Provide proof of Primary Residence.
