Chipping Program

Each year the Town operates two chipping programs - one in Spring (early March) and one in the Fall (early October), and runs for approximately 6 weeks.

FALL Chipping 2024

  • Residents EAST of Memorial Ave - starts 8am on October 7
  • Residents WEST of Memorial Ave - starts 8am on November 4

Follow the guidelines below for a smooth pickup noting that the chipper will only travel down each street ONCE so make sure you don’t miss out! (Program will run for approximately 6 weeks.)

  • ONE pile per property
  • Small trees, branches, woody shrub materials
  • Maximum pile of 8ft x 8ft x 5ft high
  • Wood under 4 inches in diameter
  • Neatly stacked at the roadside with butt ends facing the same direction
NO
  • Grass clippings, leaves, soft plant materials (eg. flowers)
  • Piles in excess of 8ft x 8ft x 5ft high
  • Piles with gravel, dirt, or roots covered with dirt
  • Wood in excess of 4 inches in diameter
Chipping Program Yes & No1 What If I have Larger Volumes of Waste?
Larger volumes and/or sizes of wood material may be taken to the Regional District of Nanaimo Transfer Station located at 860 Church Road, Parksville. Telephone 250-248-5254 for rates and further information.
Where do the Collected Branches Go?
All collected material is transported to a local compost company 'The Earthbank' where it is chipped and used for compost. Products can be purchased from The Earthbank by the general public.
