Burn Permit

Burning in Qualicum Beach requires a burning license and is only permitted under specific conditions and locations.

During a provincial fire ban, all outdoor burning is prohibited. For further information please refer to the Outdoor Burning Bylaw.

If you see an uncontained fire, call 9-1-1 immediately.

Yes! Barbeques are permitted.

Yes, as long as a person 19+ years of age or older is present, you’re burning clean, dry and seasoned firewood, and the fire does not emit heavy smoke or noxious odours. Do not burn garden refuse. Outdoor fireplaces must be located at least 3.0 metres from all neighbouring properties, buildings, overhead wiring, and highways. Burning is allowed between March 15 and November 1, as long as there are no fire bans.

An ‘outdoor fireplace’ means: a) a non-combustible appliance, covered by a grate, resting on a non-combustible surface and protected by a screen, built for containing a fire not larger than 0.5m in diameter and 0.5m in height, and includes a chiminea and fire ring; or b) a permanent structure made of rock, masonry, or metal, enclosed on a minimum of three sides and resting on a non-combustible surface, which structure provides a reasonable measure of safety from sparks.

You can only burn garden refuse if you satisfy ALL the following criteria:

  • Your property is designated in the Agricultural Land Reserve.
  • Your property is 1.0+ hectares.
  • You have obtained a Fire Permit for Garden Refuse from Town Hall.
  • You are burning materials that originated on your property.
  • The fire is solely for the purpose of agriculture or property maintenance.
  • Burning takes place between March 15 to April 5, and October 15 to November 5, and there are no fire bans.

You can only burn for agricultural purposes if you satisfy ALL the following criteria:

  • Your property is designated in the Agricultural Land Reserve.
  • Your property is 1.0+ hectares.
  • You have obtained a Fire Permit for Agricultural Clearing from Town Hall.
  • You have a written approval from the Ministry of Environment.
  • You are burning materials that originated on your property.
  • The fire is solely for the purpose of agriculture or property maintenance.
  • Burning takes place between March 15 to April 5, and October 15 to November 5, and there are no fire bans.
