Signage Permit

Signage for businesses and special events requires a permit before posting.

Signage

A sign permit is required for long-term signage, including illuminated, freestanding, window signs and awning and canopy signs.

The cost of a sign permit is $40 for the first sign and $15 for each additional sign.

If a sign is installed or erected before being issued a permit, $100 will be charged, per sign.

The following are required for the sign permit application:

  • A drawing, to scale, for each side of the sign, showing copy, material(s) used, sign dimensions, sign area, colour scheme and details of any supporting structures and framework.
  • Drawing or photograph showing the proposed location of the sign, including details of all buildings/structures located on the land, and the location and size of all existing signs.

Special Event Signage

The Town provides specific locations for special event signage to be displayed. These locations include:

  • Highway 19A: South side of road before Laburnum Rd.
  • Memorial Ave: East side between banner poles and first speed sign
  • Highway 19A: North side of road between Bennett Rd. & Village Way

To be eligible, the special event must be held within the Town boundaries

An approved application is required before installing signage and signs must be installed no earlier than 14 days before the event and removed no later than two days after.

Banners may be erected on the banner pole that is located at Memorial Avenue as you enter off Highway 19 into Qualicum Beach. Banners are displayed for no more than two weeks at a time and events must be held within Town boundaries to be eligible. Priority is given to Town hosted events and those hosted in Town facilities. There is no cost to display a banner.

To be eligible, banners must meet the following requirements:

  • Size: no larger than 20’ x 3.5’ and no smaller than 12’ x 2’
  • Material: made of sturdy material like vinyl
  • Wind Holes: wind holes of 7-10 cm in diameter installed per square foot of banner
  • No Rope Attachment: Rope must be enclosed in a sleeve for attaching the banner (no grommets)
  • An image of the banner must be included with the application.

READ-O-GRAPH

The Read-O-Graph sign, located at the corner of Memorial Avenue and Rupert Road is a great way to promote local events and happenings. Postings are displayed for no more than two weeks at a time and the event must be held within Town boundaries to be eligible. Priority is given to Town hosted events and those hosted in Town facilities. There is no cost to display a posting.
