Curbside pick-up for garbage, recycling and food waste is provided through the Regional District of Nanaimo’s contract with Waste Connections of Canada.
Garbage and recycling are taken to the Church Road Transfer Station and compostable material is taken to the Duke Point composting facility.
The RDN’s collection day window is from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Please leave your carts out until 6:00 pm on your scheduled collection day before reporting a missed collection.
If your neighbourhood or entire route is missed due to winter weather, notices will be sent out through the RDN Curbside collection reminder and service alert notification system.
If just your cart(s) were missed, but the neighbours to either side of you were emptied, you can report a missed collection by calling the RDN’s contractor, Waste Connections of Canada, at 250.248.8109 or by email to [email protected].

RecyclingBC offers Pop-Up Depots throughout the year for flexible plastics, saving residents from driving to Nanaimo, Port Alberni or sending this material to the landfill.
Your Recycling Cart and Garbage Carts are collected every two weeks, on an alternating cycle.
Your Food Waste Cart is collected every week.
