Ocean Mile Swim Cancelled Due to Air Quality Warning
In partnership with the Regional District of Nanaimo, we regret to announce the cancellation of the Ocean Mile Swim scheduled for Sunday, August 17, 2025.
This decision prioritizes public health and safety, given the rapidly evolving wildfire smoke conditions in our region. These conditions are highly variable, even across short distances, and can change quickly throughout the day, significantly affecting air quality.
According to Environment Canada’s public health advisory dated August 15, increasing smoke levels pose elevated health risks. They strongly recommend minimizing outdoor activities and suggest rescheduling or reducing any planned sports, events, and activities held outdoors. By cancelling the event today, we ensure that all registrants receive sufficient notice to adjust their plans accordingly.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during these challenging times as we prioritize the safety of our community. It is crucial to stay alert and follow necessary precautions to safeguard your health and well-being.
We look forward to welcoming the community back to the Ocean Mile Swim event in August 2026 and appreciate your continued support and understanding.
