Emergency Operations Centre (EOC)
An EOC is a centralized place where emergency support and recovery efforts are organized during an emergency. To ensure the local EOC volunteers and Town staff are trained to respond in the event of a real emergency, regular drills are conducted with the City of Parksville. In 2023 a windstorm simulation took place with more drills planned to strengthen our response.

Personal Preparedness
Know Your Hazards
The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN), Town of Qualicum Beach, and the City of Parksville partnered to undertake a Hazard, Risk and Vulnerability Analysis (HRVA) to enhance a cooperative approach to emergency management.
This HRVA provides a list of 53 hazards that could affect our region; natural, technological, and conflict-related. Scores were provided for each, with the highest risk events identified as fires, floods, wind events, drought, motor vehicle incidents, and electrical power outages.
The HRVA will be used as a foundation for the next phase of the region’s emergency preparedness and mitigation activities, helping community leaders make risk-based choices to address vulnerabilities, mitigate hazards, and prepare for response and recovery from emergencies.
