Heritage Forest Commission

The Heritage Forest Commission was formed in 2001 following the formation of the Brown Property Preservation Society (BPPS) which was established to raise funds for the purchase of the 50 acres of forested lands from the Brown family.

Initially, the purpose of the Commission was to formulate a registered Conservation Covenant to protect and manage the Heritage Forest as a nature park for the appreciation and enjoyment of nature by the public in perpetuity. The Covenant was successfully legally executed in 2008 and the Commission continues to provide good management and development of the Heritage Forest.

History of the Heritage Forest Commission

The extraordinary efforts of the Brown Property Preservation Society along with the residents of Qualicum Beach and surrounding areas raised funds (1996 – 2004) to purchase the lands. The Heritage Forest is held in perpetuity for the quiet enjoyment of nature by present and future generations.

The ‘Brown Property’ and other purchased lands became known as the ’Heritage Forest’ and the Heritage Forest Commission was formed. Membership consists of:

  • Two Town Council members.

  • Two members of the Brown Property Preservation Society.

  • One public member.

The role of the Heritage Forest Commission was to formulate a registered Conservation Covenant to protect and manage the Heritage Forest in perpetuity. The Covenant was signed on July 15, 2008 and a legal partnership was formed between the Town of Qualicum Beach, the Brown Property Preservation Society and The Land Conservancy of British Columbia. The current role of the Commission is management of the Forest.
