PQB News asked Mayor Westbroek for his Watchlist for 2026. Here is what he said…

Qualicum Beach is one of the very best places in Canada to live, recreate, and invest. The qualities that make our community so special also give us a remarkable opportunity to build on what is already working so well, supported by a dedicated Council and a highly capable staff team. With that in mind, my wish list for Qualicum Beach in 2026 includes:

  • The opening of the Primrose-Connor Medical Centre, advancing our community’s efforts to attract and retain health-care practitioners and strengthening access to primary care for residents.
  • Continued expansion of our outstanding network of natural and recreational amenities.
  • Completion of a four-court pickleball facility to support the rapid growth of this popular, inclusive sport.
  • Successful grant applications to enable:
    – The transformation of the Old Island Highway into a safe, attractive transportation corridor and waterfront boulevard.
    – Ongoing protection of the Town’s potable water infrastructure and wellfield through erosion mitigation along the Little Qualicum River.
  • Celebrating the grand re-opening of the newly renovated St. Andrews Cottage.
  • Preservation of, and sustainable long-term funding for, our critical municipal infrastructure.
  • Completion of a new Cenotaph at Memorial Avenue and Veterans Way, honouring service and sacrifice.
  • Continued progress on noise-mitigation efforts at the Qualicum Beach Airport, while preserving this important community asset.
  • Strong partnerships with our treasured volunteer organizations to advance the vital programs and care they provide.
  • The successful “tee-up” of the Qualicum Beach Eaglecrest Golf Course, marking the Town’s preservation of this cherished community icon.
