Waterfront Expansion

Waterfront expan

The Waterfront Expansion Project aims to repurpose underutilized Town-owned land located along the waterfront on Highway 19A. In addition to creating additional parking spaces, the project will include the development of bicycle/pedestrian shoulders to facilitate active transportation. The ultimate aim is to make the waterfront safer and more accessible for all users.

So far, the project has been broken into two phases:

Central Waterfront Area (Summer 2021 - May 2023 )

  • created new parking stalls along the central waterfront by infilling approximately 420 meters of roadside ditch and laying gravel and guidelines along the south side of Highway 19A (see map here).
  • 'Servicing kiosks' equipped with water and power hook up for mobile vendors/food trucks installed next to the Tourist Information Centre. This space was also furnished with a covered seating area to accommodate all-weather use.
  • Traffic calming measures, including two pedestrian-activated crossings along the waterfront, to create a safer experience for all waterfront users.
  • Received $700,000 funding from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture via its Tourism Dependent Community Fund.
