What is the background? The Town of Qualicum Beach maintains a gravity sanitary sewer collection network, installed in the 1970's, that drains to a foreshore interceptor. A section of the trunk main that drains the commercial core has settled and deflected unacceptably at the point where it crosses Highway 19A. This condition poses a troublesome ongoing maintenance challenge. A backup of this sewer results in raw sewage being discharged onto the highway and waterfront as well as causing a backup into the most prominent tourist/commercial property in town.
What will this project do? Replace a failing sanitary sewer main, including provisions for incorporating a future heat recovery/local energy system.
